Frequently Asked Questions

The Community Foundation is postponing the remaining 2008 grant cycles to focus internally on our approaches to overall community impact.

1. When will the next grant cycle occur for the Common Good Funds?

   The next grant cycle will occur in January 2009.

2. Does this affect the January Common Good Funds cycle currently in process?

No. We are in the final decision-making phase for those applications that were turned in during the January cycle and will be announcing grantees in late June.

3. Will your grantmaking priorities change?

We expect there will be some changes to the grantmaking priorities that allow us an even broader focus on nonprofit organizations in the greater Atlanta area. Does this postponement affect the status of our competitive grant that we submitted for our Momentum program back in January?

4. Will you still have two grant cycles per year in January and July?

   We will be determining the number and frequency of grant cycles throughout the remainder of our planning process this summer and fall.

5. What will happen to the money that you would have granted this summer?

   The money from these grant cycles will be carried over to 2009 so the same investment amount is still allocated to the community.

6. How are you getting community input in your planning process?

   Community-wide input and feedback is absolutely essential during our evaluation process. We will be establishing a mentoring committee, scheduling focus groups and hosting open houses over the next several months.

7. How can I learn more about your work over the next several months?

   Please continue to check back often on our website for more information and email us at ourimpact@atlcf.org. We expect to provide regular updates as well as additions to this list of FAQs as we move forward with our work.

8. Is this grant postponement due to the current challenging economy?

   No. The Community Foundation has been reviewing this planning process and subsequent grant postponement for more than a year and it is in no way connected to the current economy.

9. Are the grants from the January Common Good Funds cycle postponed?

   No. Those grants are currently in the final stages of deliberation and will be announced mid-June.
